Teaching Empathy: A Blueprint for Caring, Compassion and Community
CD of music included

By David A. Levine
David’s newest release provides strategies for creating a School of Belonging. A School of belonging is a place where all students feel as if they have a place of meaning and purpose.
Teaching Empathy is divided into four sections:
When Teachers Make Connections: introduces the idea of teacher modeling as the most significant aspect in creating an empathic and caring school culture.
Facilitating Social Discovery: details the ingredients for success in facilitating a social skills lesson by making it true to life through dialogue, reflection, and non-judgement.
The School of Belonging: highlights the cultural message of what one looks for and talks about within a school is what creates the culture. In other words, what we focus on is what we experience. The reader is provided with a specific set of observations along with ten recommendations for creating a school of belonging.
Courageous Conversations With Kids: provides the reader with a mini-empathy curriculum which synthesizes the first three sections of the book. Using a cd of seven songs and two recitations by David A. Levine, this section shows the reader how to take the ideas, practices and strategies presented in the first three sections, and integrate them into one’s own belief system and teaching style.
Cd includes the songs Howard Gray, Courage and Let Me In.
Teaching Empathy is both thought provoking and enjoyable to read while providing the practitioner with useful and relevant teaching strategies.
